On the eve of the 151st anniversary of the hanging of Vasil Levski, the “Roden krai” club at the Community Center “Sun-1879”, the town of Ihtiman, together with the head Mrs. Emilia Atanasova, organized the first of a series of events, presenting significant personalities from the town and the book “Gennadiy Ihtimanski – a monk with the soul of a rebel” by the author Veselka Galabova.
During the event, the author of the book revealed interesting facts about the work and contribution of Gennady Ihtimanski (Ivan Stoyanov Karaivanov) during and after the Renaissance period. Veselka Galabova’s book presents documented facts about the life of an undeservedly forgotten historical figure, an associate of Levski, who crossed paths with Georgi S. Rakovski, Ilio Voivoda and many other freedom fighters. The students in the “Roden Krai” club presented a special presentation that revealed facts from the life of Gennady Ihtimanski. During the presentation, the audience was filled with admiration for Veselka Galabova’s story. Together with Mrs. Nina Nesheva, a history teacher, the students from “Hristo Botev” School in Ihtiman, expressed their gratitude to the author and her contribution to the disclosure of historical events and personalities from their native region. The students shared that their curiosity and interest in history is the result of wanting to know more about their city’s past.
The event was attended by representatives from the National Library, who are part of the management team for the “United in Diversity” project. The traveling exhibition “United in Diversity” was also presented, which was viewed with interest by all the guests of the event.
